Back in cinemas for Valentine’s Day

The Broadway production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is hitting cinemas once again, specially for Valentine’s Day. The classic romantic tragedy starring the acclaimed Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad was originally distributed to cinemas worldwide by More2Screen in April last year, but owing to popular demand, the play will be re-released for the most romantic day of the year as well as several other special dates.

In this dazzling BroadwayHD production, five-time Tony award nominee director David Leveaux offers a modern interpretation of the Shakespearian masterpiece with the aim to make the play more accessible to the younger generations. Leveaux brings a dynamic energy to the play with a contemporary American setting and the intriguing dimension of race.

Orlando Bloom has been an adored heartthrob on the big screen for over a decade, rising to fame through The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean series and since then has starred in Kingdom of Heaven, The Good Doctor and has reprised his role of Legolas in the Hobbit trilogy. Yet in Romeo and Juliet, the renowned Hollywood star makes his Broadway debut, bringing a unique swagger to the role that Time Out’s David Cote says makes Bloom’s Romeo, “the most engaging you’ll see in years”. Starring opposite Bloom is acclaimed Broadway actress Condola Rashad, making the famous star-crossed lovers from two differing ethnic backgrounds and, in turn, presents a dynamic that is more illustrative of the societal makeup of today.

Romeo and Juliet was filmed with nine cameras in high definition, putting the audience up close and personal with the titular lovers and turning the average cinema trip into a highly intimate and emotional experience. If you are looking for romantic ideas for February 14th, then what better way to spend a Valentine’s evening with your partner or spouse reliving the greatest love story of all time.
